CCE Northeast Regional Hall of Fame Inductee

Michael Reynolds  -  Accordion

Inducted to its The Hall of Fame by

The Northeast Region of the North American Province – November 9, 2002

Michael Reynolds - (accordion, song) was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, the 3rd child of Larry, Sr. and Phyllis Reynolds. He grew up in a home filled with music, dancing, and house parties. Interested in the accordion at age 8, he and his brother Larry, Jr. began lessons with Eamon Flynn. After two years of lessons, Michael began playing in the Irish Music Club Band on Saturday nights. At age 13 he was playing in bands all over Boston, eventually playing with various bands around the country and on world cruises.

Michael recorded on his own album and also with Tara Hill and on the recordings of other artists in the Boston area. He had the privilege of starring in the motion picture Blown Away, with his father Larry, Sr., as the Irish Wedding Band. Devoting more time to raising his family in recent years, Michael has traveled less and played more locally. For the past 13 years, he and his father have faithfully hosted a Monday night session at the Green Briar in Brighten, where visiting musicians from around the country and Ireland stop in to join them.

Michael and his wife Patricia are blessed with 5 children—3 boys and 2 girls— and a grandson, Austin Ryan. Mike’s love and passion for the music are evident in his playing and singing with the Boston Comhaltas Ceili Band.

The Boston Comhaltas Ceili Band , formed in 1976, grew naturally out of sessions and musical  friendships. Current band members Larry Reynolds, Sr. and Tom Sheridan played with the old Boston Ceili Band of the 50s. The current band has played out for more than 15 years, performing from Alaska to the Grecian Islands to the Caribbean, from Cleveland in the mid-west to Cape Cod in the East, at ceilis in resort hotels in the Catskills and at fabulous hotels in downtown New York City. Ready to play at both local benefits and major Irish music festivals, the band has built their reputation also in part upon their great musical depth. Seamus Connolly plays with the band occasionally. Larry Reynolds, Sr. and his sons Mike and Sean, his nephew Pat, and father and son Fergus and John Keane are band regulars. Other fine musicians play now and then: Tara Lynch, Tom Sheridan, Jimmy Hogan, and Martin Cloonan among them.
